Our team are hands on, working with the local artists, cultivating positive and equal relationships as we try to bring their voices to the front.

The Artists

It starts with the artist. Most artists in Africa, and at large, live in relative low income and obscurity. Wherever we can, Zuri Art and Craft will do their best to promote artist and/or the craft, and bring back to the community, and to the artist and culture themselves.

The process of the artist is diverse and unique, usually dependent on the material available, beliefs, structure and environment.

The Art

The continent of Africa has a very rich tradition and culture of art and crafts usually expressed in wood carvings, masks, jewelry. It can be seen in the daily attire, in the rich colors, distinct patterns, and in the unique utility of the surrounding materials and the centuries of craftsmanship handed generations after generations. Whether coming from the northern, western, west-central, eastern, and Central and Southern Africa, African art has always provided an insight into intricate and rich traditions and heritage. This can include language in art form, local depictions of foreign cultures, tribal accessories and gear celebrating special occasions, and much more.
Zuri Art and Crafts, aim to bring these works of art and their stories to the fore.

Africa has about 54 unique countries and over 15% of the world’s population. That’s more than 1 billion people, over 3000 diverse African ethnic groups. That’s pretty large! You can see and feel it in the rich smiles and loud actions at the local marketplace, the loud horns in the dense cities, the wipe of sweaty brow as the farmer anticipates the end of the day in the field, the pounding rhythm of mortar and pestle as for food is prepared for the family, in the many tongues and dialects, and so much more!.
